1) Watch the video clip below...ALL OF IT (especially the baseball story)!
This is a clip of Mr. H.'s high school World Geography teacher who now coaches college football and gives motivational talks.
2) Think about the speaker's message.
3) Comment to this post with the all of the following:
A. your first name, last initial, and class period
B. relate the speaker's message to a time in your life where you faced a difficult challenge that you had to figure out, and you did "figure it out" . . . describe the challenge and how you figured it out

A challenge i had was when i was younger. it was
tying my shoes and i did it over and over to figure out how to tie my shoes.
i had to learn how to tie my shoes because i felt that i was old enough to tie my shoes. i tired and tired until i found the fastest way to do it. That's how i figured out my problem.

A challenge I had when I was little was riding my bike without training wheels. I practiced over and over with my Dad until I could balance. This relates to geography because as I learned the neighborhood terrain, I found I could get to places on my own.

A challenge I had when I was younger was getting good grades on my spelling test. So, I practiced at least three different ways of learning the words and did better. This relates to geography because if I were to make a map and label it, I would need to know how to spell words correctly.

When I was younger I faced a challenge in gymnastics. We were learning how to do handstands and I just couldn't get it. My parents couldn't help me and I didn't want help from my instructor so I practiced and figured it out on my own. This relates to world geography because when geographers find new problems they can't always be easily solved so they have to figure it out by themselves

A challenge i had faced was when i first started playing soccer when i was little and struggled on shooting the ball above the goalie so I practiced and practiced till i got it right. This relates to geography because geographers are faced with challenges unsolved and work to get them right, just like my problem.

A challenged that I faced in my my life was when i was diagnosed with Leukemia. The way I faced this challenge was I had to stay positive and just keep plugging along through the hard times. This relates to geography because I learned about Lutheran General Hospital and what it is like there and about the people that are there.

when I was younger I faced a challenge about being adopted and accepting the fact that I'm different and don't know where my the woman who gave birth to me went and why she left me. I figured out that life isn't always what they seem to be and that my family that I'm with now is where I belong and that I should be grateful that I get to live a life that I have. It relates to World Geo because I figured out where my birth mother is and am able to send her letters. I figured out her absolute location :)

A challenge I had in my life was not knowing what my new house was near when I first moved to Cary. I wrote the directions on my hand and kept looking at the stores when I was going back home. Eventually, I remembered main markings. This relates to world geography because I know the relative location of my house.

A challenge I faced when I was four was not knowing my way around Cary when we first moved here. When i lived in Florida everything was farther away. Cary everything is closer and it was confusing for me but I rode my bike around my neighbor hood for a while and payed attention when driving in the car with my parents. This relates to Geography because it showed me the difference in cultures in both towns.

The speaker's message relates to a time when I went parasailing on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. I was really anxious to go because I was going to go so high in the air. It was a challenge for me because I was going to do something that I had never done before, which was going high into the air while strapped to a parachute. I knew what my problem was: going into the air, but not in aircraft, could lead to possible death. I ended up doing it, but it was actually a great experience. I realized that doing activities that look dangerous can have positive effects. In fact, I should not be anxious to go parasailing anymore because other people can do it.
My challenge relates to world geography because parasailing can relate to culture as being an activity for people to do. How I figured out my challenge relates to world geography because it can relate to movement to understand how people move around.

A challenge that I faced was being scared of spiders. Any spider. It could be a tiny spider that most people could step on or squish with a tissue, I will run out of the room. I've gotten better, kind of, (not really) but I am now able to be in the same room as a daddy long leg. :) This relates to geography because I realize that I don't want to live in Australia. (They live with giant tarantulas!) None of that for me...
